Sunday’s Super Bowl Halftime Show will almost certainly feature the reunion of one of the most incomparable girl groups of the last quarter century: Destiny’s Child. So what better time — if merely for poops and giggles — to refresh our memories on the group’s least profiled singer?
A new blog devoted to singling out singer-actress Michelle Williams — one third of Destiny’s Child alongside Beyonce and Kelly Rowland — has been circulating on the Interwebs. PoorMichelle.com bills itself as “a compilation of all the times Michelle Williams got the short end of the Destiny’s Child stick… (The girl just can’t catch a break!)”
Here are some of our favorite “Poor Michelle” moments:
“The time Beyonce told her she had a fan in the audience…”
“The time she missed the smiling memo…”
“The time she found out Beyonce lip-synched the national anthem at Barack Obama’s inauguration…”
Interestingly enough, Williams, 32, recently went public with her lifelong battle against depression. Williams says she suffered her first bout with moderate depression at 15 or 16. She’s speaking out for the first time about her battle to encourage others to seek help.
“I’ve dealt with depression. I had to choose to get out of bed and do whatever I needed to do to be happy. We’re taught, ‘Just go to church and pray about it. The Lord is going to heal you.’ Well, in the meantime, I believe God-gifted people, physicians, doctors, therapists — that’s your healing. Take advantage of it. Go see a professional so that they can assess you. It’s OK if you’re going through something. Depression is not OK, but it is OK to go get help.”
