Disney’s Zootopia (Zootropolis in the UK) has a second trailer, much more interesting than its first. In this animal-populated film, “humans never happened,” but the animals are the ones wearing clothes, driving cars, visiting DMVs, and living in a melting pot of different animal species.
In this second trailer, the fox and the rabbit go into a DMV entirely run by sloths—so yeah, this society sounds a lot like ours. The impatient rabbit, a police officer, is in a hurry to run a plate number, but as expected, the sloth is taking forever.
It’s actually pretty funny, despite the criticism this film is already receiving. Its central conceit is one that has definitely been done before, yet it calls itself “like nothing you’ve ever seen be-fur.” Still, the creative geniuses in Disney Studios have rarely failed, so Zootopia will likely turn out to be a feel-good, funny family movie.
The movie centers around rookie Officer Judy Hopps (a rabbit) who arrives in Zootopia to find that she’s the first bunny on the police force populated by big, tough animals. She’s determined to prove herself by solving a big case, so she partners with scam-artist fox Nick Wilde.
It’s also a star-studded comedy, featuring the voices of Ginnifer Goodwin, Jason Bateman, Shakira, Idris Elba, Octavia Spencer, Bonnie Hunt, and many, many more.
Zootopia is slated for release on March 4, 2016.
