One-time American Idol runner-up Katharine McPhee has inked a new recording contract a year after being dropped from RCA Records.

According to Billboard, Katharine, who finished in second place on the fifth season of the hit singing competition, is now under contract with Verve Music Group [VMG].

“The album she is working on will show many new sides to her talents as an interpreter and a songwriter, and show everyone just how special she is,” a rep for VMG said in a statement on Tuesday.

Katharine will make her label debut later this year.
