New Clip of ‘Suffragette’ Shows Carey Mulligan Expressing Her Wish to Vote [WATCH]

It’s a tiny, short clip, but it’s getting us excited to see Suffragette in theatres on October 23rd.

Suffragette tells the story of Maud Watts, a working mother and wife who has been sexually abused by her factory employer. She gets embroiled in the fight for the vote in Britain, and through her eyes, we’ll see the British suffrage movement unfold.

In this short clip, Maud tells her husband that she wants the right to vote. He asks her what she would do with the vote. She responds, “The same you do with yours.” He accuses her of being a suffragette, a charge she denies.

This short clip shows the still-relevant gender politics that were at play over a hundred years ago. It also shows the acting skills of Carey Mulligan, who seems like she’d be perfect to play the role of a reluctant activist turned determined. We can’t wait to see the rest of the movie.

Co-starring Helena Bonham Carter and Meryl Streep, Suffragette opens on October 23rd in the United States.
