Native American Groups Blast Heidi & Spencer Name Change

You knew this was coming: Several Native American interest groups are riled-up over the latest publicity stunt from Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt the D-list duo now known as “White Wolf” and “Running Bear.”

On Wednesday, The Hills’ Heidi and Spencer revealed their desire to now be referred to by their new “Indian tribal names,” much to the chagrin of many Native Americans, who — like the rest of us — want to keep the young lovers as far away from them and their heritage as possible.

Groups like The National Indian Education Association argue you that similar to the stars of MTV’s Jersey Shore or VH1’s now-defunct Flavor of Love, Heidi and Spencer are using stereotypical mistruths about a group of people — in this case the Native American community — to garner headlines and captalize off of ignorance.

“Continued stereotyping such as this by people ignorant of our traditional ways is very disrespectful and only hurts our efforts to curtail these stereotypes,” a rep from the Rosebud Sioux Tribe of South Dakota – just one of several groups peeved at the Terrible Twosome – told TMZ Thursday.
