MTV executives have selected 18 finalists to take over the role of social media maven — who will engage with the MTV audience and serve as a liaison between viewers and network bosses. MTV is asking its audience to find two more semi-finalist to compete in a series of online challenges in hopes of landing the job. Applicants must be personable and demonstrate how they’ll connect with Twitter followers.
Perks include access to the world’s hottest celebrities, entry to star-studded red carpet events, and a $100,000 salary.
“The hope is that this person will be dynamic, engaging and energized, an enthusiast within the social media world,” says MTV executive Dave Sirulnik. “Somebody who will represent the audience by taking their thoughts and questions and … through an ongoing dialogue with them, be able to bring those questions inside the walls here to the people who make MTV.”
Five finalists will ultimately compete on a live show on Aug. 8, where fans will select The Ultimate TJ. The new Twitter Jockey’s first gig for MTV will be covering the network’s annual Video Music Awards next September.
