I’m Italian and from the mid-west. I have lived in NYC for 20 years. Let me explain something truly important. Most of the cast is from NY (like, Staten Island) and what the show is portraying is actually a true depiction of a small sub-set of Italian-Americans. I know this because I was married to someone from Staten Island and spent a tremendous amount of time on that fine Isle. Not to say EVERYONE was like those of the Jersey Shore, but ENOUGH were that it was new to me and again, I’M ITALIAN! There is a mafioso “wanna-be” vibe that is real and exists and MTV KNEW it would be entertaining to all of America who cannot believe that this culture is real. I’m Italian and from the mid-west. I have lived in NYC for 20 years. Let me explain something truly important. Most of the cast is from NY (like, Staten Island) and what the show is portraying is actually a true depiction of a small sub-set of Italian-Americans. I know this because I was married to someone from Staten Island and spent a tremendous amount of time on that fine Isle. Not to say EVERYONE was like those of the Jersey Shore, but ENOUGH were that it was new to me and again, I’M ITALIAN! There is a mafioso “wanna-be” vibe that is real and exists and MTV KNEW it would be entertaining to all of America who cannot believe that this culture is real. But again, it is a small minority of what is means to be Italian in the U.S. and for that reason alone it should be taken off the air-waves.
