Dear Amber,
You have no idea what you’re talking about. Really. It has nothing to do with being cool; I know a shitload of meth addicts and none have lost their virginities in bathrooms or sold their bodies for $15. These things don’t really happen, no. Methamphetamine is a drug, big deal. So is nicotine, alcohol, acetylsalicylic acid, weed, caffeine, heroin, acetaminophen, and a ton of other chemicals. Whoop-dee-do-da; they won’t kill you if you do them right. I know from experience, and so does Amber. Don’t make up “facts” please, you’re disgracing those of us that have /actually/ gone through this stuff. And I don’t fucking regret one goddamn minute of my life.

Don’t make excuses for meth users. Maybe you were an ex-addict, but just because YOU may not have sold your body for $15 doesn’t mean most of the other people on meth don’t. Also, the rate of stopping the usage of meth is at around 5% or lower. Get your facts straight, Amber. Do some research. Alcohol and smoking aren’t vital to one’s health either, they just take longer to show the effects on your body and don’t kill you so quickly. Before you post again, think about what you decide to type, so you won’t look like an idiot to others in here. Meth destroys your brain. It is made with rat poison, battery acid, paint thinner, Drano (yes, the stuff that actually cleans your drains in your bathroom) and a heap of other things. I guess I’m not a big enough loser to want to inhale or inject starter fluid or battery acid into my system. Or, wait..sorry, maybe I’m just not “cool” enough for that. Don’t sit there and say that “Oh, you won’t lose your virginity in a bathroom’ or “Oh, no one tears their skin off”. Those are lies. Has anyone searched ‘meth users’ on Google images? What an eye opener. What is more sexy to a man or a woman than open sores all over the opposite sex? Major turn-on, right? Maybe the few rotten teeth in their smile is what makes you weak in the knees? The meth ads are very graphic, but they are just what everyone needs to see. I know of people who have given up their own children for meth. Other people leave their “friends” alone, just so they won’t get caught. Yes, these things actually happen.

As an ex addict i can tell you that almost ALL of these are false…i know more than enough people including myself who have done meth very heavily…let me tell you what IS TRUE…your teeth will rot you will get bruises and sometimes you will get sores from scratching at SPEED BUMPS also known as meth bugs…WITHDRAWLS cause a temper with any addiction such as nicotine and alcohol…but those are legal…and so are prescription pain meds…depending on how long you have stayed up is on wether you will see crazy things…i have before but i had been up for 8 days straight with no food and no sleep…depending on HOW you use wether it be smokeing it, snorting it eating it or RIGGING which is using a needle is if you would possibly get HIV…you will steal to get money for it but you won’t beat up and old person to do it…u want to sneak around…meth makes you paranoid…let me tell you what is FALSE no will will have sex for only 15 bucks to buy meth it is too damn expensive for only doing it for that little…you will not lose your virginity in a nasty bathroom…you will not try to rip ur freaking skin off that does hurtand you won’t just leave someone for dead…these people who come up with this stuff need to be ex addicts..we know what we have suffered and lost by doing meth…like family, friends, jobs, cars, homes, pretty much ur entire life. it is a horrible life to live but it’s not what this ad campaigne is showing you. second and last YOU have the choice to either do these things or not wether you do meth or not you still have a brain…there are more things out there that are killing jsut as many people but i don’t see them banning alcohol or pain pills anytime soon…people DIE from dong meth, but people also die from drinking and smoking andCLIFF DIVING…YOU HAVE A CHOICE!!! it’s up to you if you want to be all alone in the world with no money and no life or not.

If you never believed that “METH IS DEATH!”? Those images should give you plenty of food for thought.
I lost a lot of good friends to that rat poison-cum-street drug, and I feel that if these PSAs might nudge a few towards getting the help they need…then the money spent was worth every penny!

just because it wasn’t mentioned anywhere: this campaign came out of ad agency venables, bell&partners in san francisco. ( http://www.venablesbell.com )

you could ask them how the campaign has performed, agencies usually have a lot of those kind of numbers.

I have worked as a drug counselor/case manager for several years. I don’t know what will untimately work, but I’m all for trying something! To the person who believes that it is your right to do what you wish to your own body…. if it were just your body that was affected, I’d agree, but I think even you know better than that!

I saw this linked from another at Pop Crunch which says had this:

“The group was founded by billionaire Thomas Siebel and has had great success. Since the campaign was started teen meth use is down 45% and adult meth use has fallen by 72%. Other states with meth problems have begun running the ads, including Arizona and Illinois.”

Presuming thats true, its great. I’ve seen a lot of problem meth heads around here- and one problem is that most people around (including me) believe that a person has a right to do what they will with their own body. I do not believe “law enforcement” makes anything better in these cases. And yet, anti-drug programs in schools demonstrably lie about other, softer, drugs.

People hear what happens to meth heads so they know these ads are true. Put the ugly reality of it out there and fewer people will try it.
