Christian Bale’s estranged mother hopes The Fighter star’s Best Supporting Actor win at Sunday’s Oscars will help rebuild their fractured family.
Jenny Bale hasn’t spoken to the acid-tongued Brit, 37, since he was arrested in his hotel suite back in July 2008 after allegedly attacking his mother and sister Sharon, 43, in front of the latter’s three children just hours before the London premiere of The Dark Knight. Jenny says Christian, notorious on Hollywood sets for his explosive temper, became aggressive toward them, prompting Sharon to call the authorities. Charges were later dropped but Christian “never forgave” his kin for handing him over to officials, according to his griefstricken mom.
“I hope this Oscar can bring us together. The family are so pleased for him. This Oscar is well deserved. I saw other celebrities there with their mothers and got upset,” says Jenny, 63. “I would have loved to have been there by his side. I’d love for Christian to walk through the door right now and. I’d give him a big hug and a kiss and we could forget about the last three years. I don’t know why he’s doing this.”
The elder Bale would gladly apologize to her boy, she tells Britain’s The Sun, but her inability to contact him has made that a difficult feat.
“If I had done something wrong I’d apologize, but I really don’t know why it’s come to this.”
Christian — who has a five-year-old daughter Emme with wife Sibi — has refused to comment on his estrangement from his mother and sister, calling it “a private family matter.”
