“Modern Family” Actress Ariel Winter Removed From Mother’s Custody
A California judge has removed Modern Family actress Ariel Winter from her home after the teen’s mother allegedly physically and emotionally abused her.
According to TMZ, the 14-year-old actress, who plays Alex Dunphy on the hit show, has been placed into guardianship with her older sister, Shanelle Workman, who reportedly suffered the same abuse 20 years ago. Shanelle remained was in foster care for more than two years.
At a guardianship hearing on Oct. 3, Ariel’s mother — Crystal Workman — was ordered to stay 100 yards away from her daughter. A second hearing on the matter is set for Nov. 20.
The National Enquirer previously reported that Ariel wanted to divorce her parents because they wouldn’t allow her see her boyfriend. But in court papers obtained by the media, Crystal alleges her mother subjected her to “ongoing physical abuse (slapping, hitting, pushing) and emotional abuse (vile name-calling, personal insults about minor and minor’s weight, attempts to ‘sexualize’ minor, deprivation of food, etc.) for an extended period of time.”
