She lost because she stumbled over the question and did not display a sense of awareness about issues that a Miss USA winner should have some grasp on. From the Miss USA site:"These women are savvy, goal-oriented and aware. The delegates who become part of the Miss Universe Organization display those characteristics in their everyday lives, both as individuals, who compete with hope of advancing their careers, personal and humanitarian goals, and as women who see to improve the lives of others."Savvy, goal-oriented and *aware*. Miss California showed the world that she was definitely not two out of the three (e.g. savvy or aware). That is why she lost. And rightfully so...any competitor can insert their own opinion, but if they do it gracelessly and in a clumsy way, they don't get the crown.
