Millburn High School “Slut List” Sparks National Debate On Hazing

Talk about real-life Mean Girls. The first year of high school has turned into a nightmare for a group of Jersey girls after they became the targets of a sexually-charged bullying/hazing ritual orchestrated by graduating seniors. Millburn High School is known for making Newsweek’s list of the top 200 schools in the nation, but the institution in affluent North Jersey is quickly becoming just as popular for its annual “Slut List.”

For more than 12 years, popular senior girls have developed a mean-spirited ranking of freshmen and passed it around.

“Every year these senior girls — there is usually that one clique, I don’t know what you’d call it, a group of girls who create a so-called slut list of incoming freshman girls,” said recent Milburn graduate Conner Leslie. “It basically consists of a list of girls and little blurbs of something degrading.”

Jennifer Connic, a reporter for The Millburn-Short Hills Patch, obtained this year’s list and on it were the names of 21 freshmen out of a class of more than 300. Each entry was accompanied by an X-rated description.

The list is signed “We hate you all, Seniors 2010.”

The list is just part of what happens on the first day of school at Millburn. Seniors also blow loud whistles at freshmen, shove them into lockers and even slapped profance stickers on their backs.
