Pop tart Miley Cyrus knows how to rock, says Poison frontman Bret Michaels.

The Hannah Montana starlet, 17, swaps her Tween Queen reputation for the coveted “edgier” sound on her upcoming cover of Poison’s classic 80s rock ballad “Every Rose Has Its Thorn.” The pop-country crooner credits Bret with introducing her to rock at a young age.

“‘Every Rose’ is a classic and one of my favorites. Bret Michaels and Poison was my very first concert and introduced me to rock and roll,” Miley wrote on her blog earlier this month.

So far, Bret’s pleased with how recording is going.

“[Miley] nailed the song,” Bret told MTV News this week. “She really knew what she was doing. … She got in there and picked the guitar up. It was one of those nights that just worked. It was fun. It’s gotta be her taking ‘Every Rose’ and making it all hers.”

The rocker-turned-Rock of Love reality star believes Miley’s cover will reflect her creative tastes — although he plans to contribute backup vocals.

“She’s one of the few musicians — and I want to use that word cause she can actually play and sing — she’s one of the few people who can pull it off and give it her own flare and make it sound good,” Michaels told MTV Monday. “I think that’s what’s going to make the song feel like she owns it. She’s got a very contemporary twist on it.”
