Mickey Rourke WWE “Wrestlemania” Match Cancelled
Mickey Rourke has gracefully bowed out of his highly-publicized Wrestlemania match with WWE star Chris Jericho.
“Mickey was very honored to be asked as he has the greatest respect for WWE however he will not be participating in ‘Wrestlemania,’” the actor’s rep said in a statement late Wednesday. “He is focusing entirely on his acting career.”
At the SAG Awards on Sunday, Mickeyshared his enthusiasm over plans to join Wrestlemania.
“The boys from the WWE called me and asked me to do it,” he then said. “I said, ‘I want to.’ I’m talking with [WWE legend] Rowdy Roddy Piper about it.”
Mickey is nominated for a Best Performance by a Leading Actor Oscar, and has already won a Golden Globe, for playing Randy “The Ram” Robinson in the critically-acclaimed film The Wrestler.
