Michelle Williams has snagged the role of iconic screen stunner Marilyn Monroe in the forthcoming drama My Week With Marilyn, London columnist Baz Bamigboye revealed on Thursday.
The Brokeback Mountain star will play the Hollywood legend in the Simon Curtis-directed film that looks at what went on behind the scenes during the making of 1957’s The Prince And The Showgirl, which starred Marilyn and Laurence Olivier.
A series of popular stars were courted for the role – including Scarlett Johansson and Amy Adams — however it was the beloved Williams who wowed producers and ultimately won the role. Insiders say Michelle was quite taken with the script, which is based on a diary kept by one of Olivier’s employees.
Filming begins in June 2010.
I enjoy Michelle very much, but I’d envisoned Scarlett in this role. What do you think? Does Michelle have the chops to pull off Marilyn?
