Michael Strahan Makes Debut as “Live! with Kelly and Michael” Co-Host
Could a Daytime Emmy be on the horizon for Super Bowl champion Michael Strahan?
Tuesday morning marked the debut of Live! with Kelly and Michael.
Former sudster star Kelly Ripa has been flying solo since Regis Philbin left the morning gabfest last November. In the months that followed Reege’s high-profile exit, Live! has had numerous guest co-hosts — including Neil Patrick Harris, Kim Kardashian, Mary J. Blige and Ripa’s husband, Mark Consuelos.
But it was Strahan, former defensive end for the New York Giants, who won the golden ticket, after making 20 appearances as a guest co-host on the program over the past two years.
“It’s time for a new era of our show to begin,” Ripa said at the start of Tuesday’s show. “It gives me great pleasure to introduce to you the newest member of our Live! family — Michael Strahan!”
“I adore you and I am so happy to be here and be a part of this,” Strahan said. “You know how they say it’s a dream come true? I truly can’t say that because I didn’t even know I could dream this.”
Michael Gelman, Live! executive producer, said in a statement:
“As a guest co-host, Michael’s chemistry with Kelly was off the charts, and continued to grow each time he visited the show. The interaction between the co-hosts always has been what makes this show different from any other on television. Kelly and Michael’s ability to play off of one another and just plain have a good time together creates great TV for the audience.”
