Michael Slager Defense Fund Withdraws “Never Been In Trouble” Claims — As Stories Surface
Oops! Michael Slager’s defense fund began on IndieGoGo yesterday, but if Slager thought he was standing in line to get a million dollars in donations, he might want to start rethinking. After a video surfaced that showed the death of Walter Scott didn’t quite happen the way Slager claimed, he was charged with murder. A campaign quickly surfaced to garner donations for his defense. However, if he was hoping for a repeat of the Darren Wilson fundraiser, which raised close to a million dollars and hundreds of racist comments, he’s out of luck. The fundraiser has already had to change its description — and has already had donations withdrawn.
Yesterday, Michael Slager’s defense fundraiser bore multiple references to his record, stating repeatedly that he had never been disciplined in five years on the police force.
We’re campaigning to show our Support for Officer Michael T. Slager! We believe in all of our LEOs and want to publicly support them! Although he may have made mis-steps in judgement he was protecting the community. Michael is a former Coast Guardsman with two stepchildren and a wife who is expecting a child, served for more than five years with the department without being disciplined. Please help in any way you can. He has served five years with the department without being disciplined.
Today, those sentences have been deleted, and the description is brief.

The donation pledges have also dropped from $65 to $15.
Could the change in claims be because Michael Slager has indeed been accused of abusive behavior in the past?
CBC News reports that he was accused of excessively tasering a suspect in 2013. The victim in that case (who was later released without charges) says that Slager asked for admittance to his home, and when asked why, responded by using his taser.
Of course, the claim that Michael Slager was never disciplinedstill stands (unless there’s something else that hasn’t yet surfaced) but at minimum, we now know that we’re not dealing with an officer who has never been the subject of a complaint.
