Michael Jackson Funeral Tickets For Sale Online
Tickets to the Michael Jackson memorial service at Los Angeles’ Staples Center on Tuesday began appearing on online sites like eBay and Craigslist soon after winners of the lottery were notified on Sunday. However, eBay bosses were quick to step in and ban users trying to trade Jackson memorial passes on the site.
“Any tickets for the memorial service will be taken down,” said a spokesman.
Ticket winners received vouchers from Ticketmaster via e-mail, and were instructed to pick up their Michael Jackson funeral tickets Monday June 6 at Dodger Stadium.
Registration began on Friday, July 3 at 10 AM PT and ended on July 4 at 6 PM.
Winners were determined by a random drawing of 8,750; 1.6 million people signed up for the lottery for tickets to the King of Pop’s public memorial service. Those selected will receive two tickets to the memorial service Tuesday June at either the Staples Center, or the live simulcast at the Nokia Theatre.
One eBay listing asked for a Buy It Now price of $20,000, while other prices varied.
When fans pick up their tickets, a wristband will be placed on each person’s wrist. Organizers will check IDs to make sure those picking up wristbands are the same people who originally applied online, Staples Center spokesman Michael Roth told MSNBC Monday.
Fans must have both the ticket and the wristband to enter Staples Center memorial on Tuesday. Wristbands that have been ripped, taped or tampered with will not be honored.
Although Roth acknowledges that scalping of the free passes is possible because winners are permitted to give anyone their second bracelet.
“Theoretically, the second wrist band can be sold,” Roth said.
