Michael Jackson was nominated for the Artist of the Year Award at the 2009 American Music Awards, as Paula Abdul, Adam Lambert, and Snoop Dogg announced the nominees for this year’s ceremony in a live press conference from Los Angeles early Tuesday.

The King of Pop also picked up four additional noms for his 2003 Greatest Hits Collection. In all, the music icon, who passed away in June, is up for Artist of the Year, Pop Rock Male, Pop Rock Album, R&B/Soul Male and R&B/Soul Album. Michael is eligible because the AMAs go by sales and air play, not based on the year the material may have been released.
The American Music Awards air Sunday, Nov. 22 on ABC.
