Michael Jackson 911 Call Not Made Immediately; Doctor Waited 30 Minutes To Call Authorities
Edward Chernoff — the lawyer for Dr. Conrad Murray, the physican that was with Michael Jackson when the music legend passed away last Thursday– told CNN that a 911 call was not made immediately after the singer was found to be ill.
Chernoff told CNN’s Kiran Chetry that his client performed CPR on MJ for 25-30 minutes before calling for help — adding that the lack of a phone line in Jackson’s bedroom contributed to the delayed 911 call.
What?!
“No, I mean look, not immediately. Dr. Murray is his personal physician, that is something you would want is for your doctor to be right there if you were going into cardiac arrest, he was there, especially a cardiologist, he was there to try to revive Michael,” Chernoff replied when asked if 911 was called immediately.
The lawyer goes on, “When it became clear that he could not revive him through CPR, then he sought to call 911. The problem, Kiran, is that in Michael Jackson’s home, the phones don’t work. There’s no outside line, at least in Michael Jackson’s bedroom, so [Dr. Murray] had to yell for help, get security up, and then at some point security called 911.”
He also defended the doctor’s performance of CPR on a bed — although the medical community recommends performing the potentially life-saving procedure — on the floor. The lawyer says the bed was “hard.”
