Mia Farrow Hunger Strike
On Monday, actress Mia Farrow will begin a three-week hunger strike in protest of the crisis in Darfur.
Mia’s protest comes after the Sudanese government expelled foreign aid agencies from the war-torn region in March. The 64-year-old actress, who is a goodwill ambassador for the UNICEF, will only drink water as part of a fast.
“I undertake this fast in the heartfelt hope that world leaders who know what is just and right will call upon the government of Sudan to urgently readmit all of the expelled agencies or otherwise insure that the [aid distribution] gap is filled,” Mia says.
The Rosemary’s Baby star has prepared herself for an physical ramifications that may result from her dangerous fast.
“I don’t know what will happen – I have no idea,” she adds.
“I looked it up online just to see kind of what to expect, and the reason I’m gonna try to go for three weeks is because you do permanent, irreversible damage, possibly to your organs. But it is a punishment to the body for sure.”

I applaud Mia doing something to keep this in the news even if it is for just a few days. One woman got Darfur mentioned by every major new organization. I understand the comments about the problems we have here in the US and the thinking that we should be focused on ourselves, but there are no real comparisons. Genocide – violent crimes committed against groups with the intent to destroy the existence of the group. That is what is happening there. We do not have thousands of people with machetes chopping people up in our streets and raping countless women here in the US. Watch George Clooney’s documentary “Sand and Sorrow” and then tell me it is not our problem. The most powerful country in the world can help and get other contries to help. Mia is just doing what anyone who really understands the situation would do, something, anything to get the word out and attention to this. savedarfur, look it up
