Actress Melanie Griffith is recuperating after undergoing surgery to remove cancerous cells from her face this week.

The Working Girl star, 52, had the procedure done early enough “to prevent further complications,” her spokeswoman Robin Baum told The Associated Press Thursday. Melanie was left with a black eye after the surgery.

The actress — who has a history of struggles with drinks and alcohol –checked into rehab earlier this summer.
