Mel Gibson and his girlfriend, Russian pop singer Oksana Grigorieva, are expecting, a rep for the actor confirmed to PEOPLE on Monday — ending weeks of online innuendo of fatherhood awaiting the 53-year-old star once again.

“He couldn’t be happier,” a friend of the actor told PEOPLE. “He loves being a father.”

According to the insider, Oksana is in her second trimester and due to give birth in late fall. The vocalist, 39, has a son from a previous relationship.

Mel has seven children with estranged wife of 30 years Robyn Gibson. Mel and Robyn filed for divorce last month following a three year separation.
