Emergency! Former ER star Mekhi Phifer just put his checking account on life support.
The Divergent star has made big screen appearances in a host of urban cinema classics, most notably Soul Food, Paid in Full and High School High. Of course, high-profile roles don’t always translate into hefty paychecks. (Try this on for size: Jonah Hill in The Wolf of Wall Street.)
Mekhi filed for bankruptcy last month, caving under the weight of approximately $1.3 million in debt, TMZ reported Wednesday. The massive sum includes $1.2 million in back taxes and nearly five grand worth of unpaid child support.
An emergency, indeed.
According to the official court filing, the father of three spends about $116,000 a month, despite pulling in roughly $7,500. Forget the ER; it’s time to page a financial advisor.
Phifer’s list of “assets” is equally depressing. Hint: There’s a leather bed involved.
