Meg Ryan opens up about her painful split from Dennis Quaid, the daughter she adopted from China, and being “America’s Sweetheart” in the October issue of In Style, on newsstands September 26.
Meg On Being America’s Sweetheart: “It’s an old-fashioned idea, so anachronistic. I understood it was a compliment about being lovable, and it felt nice … but it also felt, after a time, like ideas were being projected onto me that had nothing to do with me. The girl next door to what? I never felt like a very conventional person.”
Meg On Her Divorce From Dennis Quaid: “Dennis was not faithful to me for a very long time, and that was very painful. I found out more about that after I was divorced.”
On Affair With Russell Crowe: “I think he took a big hit. But Russell didn’t break up the marriage. He was definitely there at the end, but it wasn’t his fault. I was a mess. I hurt him too at the end. I couldn’t be in another long relationship, it wasn’t the time for that. So I got out.”
Meg On Her Adopted Daughter Daisy: “I don’t feel like I adopted a child. I feel like I just got this unbelievable companion,” says Ryan. “Daisy is brilliant. This kid says things every day that make you just stop and stare at her.”

I absolutely admire Meg Ryan I think she is such a talented and earthy actor. It is hard to be in this world with so much pressure during a breakup when the spot light is all over her. She did the best she could and unfortunately a friend was pulled into it and things were taken out of context which is always the case. At least it gave her a break to breath a little now she is going to be better than ever. You are still loved Meg!
