“Meatballs” Directors Courted For “21 Jump Street” Movie
The duo that brought the animated hit Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs to the box office is prepping a big screen revival of the ’80s cult crime drama 21 Jump Street.
21 Jump Street debuted in 1987 and ran for five seasons. The FOX series — which featured Holly Robinson Peete and immortalized Johnny Depp’s sultry good looks — centerd on a crew of baby-faced police officers who worked undercover in high schools.
Meatballs’ Phil Lord and Chris Miller are in talks to direct the feature for Columbia Pictures, Variety said Monday. Michael Bacall and Superbad star Jonah Hill — who would likely star in the feature — have been tipped to pen the screenplay.
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs has grossed more than $122 million internationally since opening in theaters last month.
