John and Cindy McCain are sending their sympathies to Barack Obama and his family after the death of the Democratic presidential hopeful’s grandmother.

Madelyn Dunham passed away of cancer on Sunday at the age of 86.

“We offer our deepest condolences to Barack Obama and his family as they grieve the loss of their beloved grandmother,” the statement reads.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to them as they remember and celebrate the life of someone who had such a profound impact in their lives.”
