Matt Damon is generally referred to as a nice guy. Married to the same woman for 10 years now…an eternity by Hollywood standards, a dad to three daughters and one step-daughter, busy and unchanged by fame and fortune.
Now, the star of the upcoming, Promised Land, which he co-wrote with friend, John Krasinski, says that he hopes to continue a lengthy career, like that of his heroes, Clint Eastwood and Tommy Lee Jones. “We’re at a point where politicians don’t really get any benefit from engaging with long-term issues. Instead, it’s all about the next election cycle,” Damon says. “Those guys in the House don’t do anything now but run for office. So unless they can find some little thing that zips them up a couple of points in the polls, they’re not interested. There’s a consensus among scientists, though, that we face serious long-term issues. They’re saying that unless we engage with those issues, we’re genuinely f@#$%^. The way it looks, we’re going to wait until one of those big issues smacks us. Hopefully, [author and futurist] Ray Kurzweil is right and all our problems will be solved by technology.”
Matt on keeping himself in great shape: “I don’t have much time between work, parenting and other pursuits I’m involved in, but I lift weights. If somebody’s around to box with, I can hit the focus pads, but I haven’t done that in a while. I used to jog a lot, but now I’ll do maybe one long run a week, or I’ll do sprints.”
