Mary-Louise Parker Nude Bathtub Scene Regret — “I Didn’t Need To Be Naked”
Mary-Louise Parker regrets a nude scene she appeared in on last season’s finale of the Showtime Original Series Weeds.
In an interview with the June issue of More Magazine, the actress, 44, says she felt the shot of her sitting nude in the bathtub lingered too long on her breasts.
“I didn’t think I needed to be naked, and I fought with the director about it, and now I’m bitter. … I wish I hadn’t done that. I was goaded into it”
But Mary-Louise has always been a bit bashful. “I never had a date in high school, not one,” she tells More of her crippling shyness as a teen. That all changed when she went off to college at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts at age 17. “Every boy wanted to date me. It’s because I was at school with a bunch of artists, a bunch of freaks. It was OK to be what I was. Knowing this made me come out of myself.”
Weeds’ co-executive producer Roberto Benabib has stepped out in defense of the scene, saying the nudity was paramount to convey the emotion of vulnerability richly present in the scene: “We felt at that point in her life, her defenses had been so thoroughly stripped away, there was a nonchalance to the nudity that informed the scene…I thought it was wonderful, one of the five best scenes Mary-Louise has ever done [on Weeds].”
