He’s come a long way since his days kickin’ it old skool with the Funky Bunch. So it should give you “Good Vibrations” (see what we did there) to hear that rapper-turned-actor Mark Wahlberg will receive the coveted Generation Award at the MTV Movie Awards in June.
Previous recipients of the Generation Award include Johnny Depp, Reese Witherspoon, Sandra Bullock, Jamie Foxx, Ben Stiller, Adam Sandler, Mike Myers, Tom Cruise and Jim Carrey.
The award will be presented by the cast of Entourage, one of the three TV programs that Wahlberg has produced since hanging up his hip-hopping calling card in the early 1990s. MTV president Stephen Friedman couldn’t be happier to be handing the golden popcorn over to Mark, who will appear in the hotly-awaited blockbuster Transformers: Age of Extinction this summer.
“Mark Wahlberg is the definition of a modern day Renaissance Man: from Dirk Diggler to The Departed, The Basketball Diaries to Ted, Entourage to The Fighter, in front of the camera and behind—he’s done it all and he’s always memorable. Mark has captivated the MTV audience for over 20 years, and for this rare feat, we’re proud to recognize him with this year’s Generation Award.”
The MTV Movie Awards, hosted by Conan O’Brien, will air live on Sunday, April 13 at 9 pm ET/PT.
