Mariska Hargitay Leaving “Law & Order: SVU”

After being hospitalized with a collapsed lung for the third time in three months, Golden Globe and Emmy-winning actress Mariska Hargitay is reportedly ready to turn in her badge after ten seasons on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

Mariska suffered two separate incidents of a partially collapsed lung in late December and early January. Earlier this month, she took ill again “discomfort relating to her earlier lung condition,” according to her rep.

The National Enquirer writes:

Although her publicist says Mariska is definitely coming back to the show next year, the source insists the latest incident was enough to persuade Mariska to leave SVU and tend to her health.

Mariska has played Detective Olivia Benson on the crime series since its debut in 1999.

No! Can you imagine SVU without Det. Benson? It was bad enough when she had to go on maternity leave. She’s what makes the show fabulous! We haven’t heard anything this depressing since Ben & Jerry’s discontinued Black Walnut Ice Cream.
