@Nina- have you forgotten that after Glitter, she got back to her feet WITHOUT Mottola? Or were you sleeping under a rock when Emancipation, E=MC2 were released? The reason she made it so big was because of her excellent songs, production abilities, great voice and unmatched musicality. That amount of longevity is rare- tell me of any MC contemporaries that still make headlines like MC while still making great hits!?

I listened to Top of the Pops once and cringed= the music was awful. Its like Brits think good music has to be eccentric or weird sounding. Its thus no surprise they’d think Mariah was the worst. But try telling ANY of them to sing like her then they’d shut up. I bet if you hypnotized them or asked them about MC while sleepwalking, they’d have a different answer. Mariah is the greatest voice of all time, everyone knows that thats why all new artistes try to emulate her. Why would they copy something that bad!? Puh-leeze, Brits, get your ears de- waxed. And while you’re at it, can you name me ONE british artist that has a better voice than MC’s? Hmm…

who else can compare to a five-octave voice?, whoever says they can’t feel her soul when she is singing is either angry, jealous, resentful, or just plain fooling themselves, what a ridiculous hateful statement to say, we all are not perfect, whoever is may cast a stone at her, till then, F- off lowlifes, that’s my idol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For all honesty all Mariah has is a good voice.And that alone is no better than any bar singer has. Her music is cheesy, stereotype, ghetto,and very teenage-like. Anyone over 16 that still likes her should be tagged as childish. Dave has got a point, you childish people need to grow up.Mariah climb to her position not because of her voice, but because of her husband. Look what happened to “Glitter”, that is when she was on her own and she flopped like her true self.

Your use of the phrase “stupid Americans” seems highly unnecessary considering that this little banter going on here is supposed to be concerning Mariah Carey’s skill as a singer, not your apparent abhorrence of Americans. You should probably stop stereotyping people, stop making gross overgeneralizations, and just stop voicing your opinion, because you sound like a genuinely ignorant person. It’s not a good look for you. The fact that your respect for a human being hinges on whether or not that person has purchased a Mariah Carey album or not is pathetic. Oh, and “than” is actually spelling THEN (I capitalized it for the benefit of you: a “stupid” person-no national designation necessary). Oh yeah, I almost forgot, Mariah Carey is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. Stop being a HATER.

I think it’s ridiculous how people say that Mariah Carey has no “soul” in her voice. I don’t think “One Sweet Day” would have stayed #1 for 16 weeks if it didnt move people, or that “Hero” would be sung all over the world if it wasn’t moving. I think that she matches the lyrics with the intricacies in her voice…and who better to emote the lyrics than the person who felt and wrote them….Those comments are baseless

If sales are any yardstick of ‘quality’ than I am sure if you asked any American who the greatest chef in the world is they would say ‘Ronald McDonald’.
