yes she gives it her all, she has spent countless hours in the studio doing and redoing takes, and being directed constantly, in order to get the most polished piece of music, but when it comes to matching the lyrics with how she is using her energy, there really is no connection being made, which in fact makes the song nothing more than esthetic, and empty of personal meaning.
just listen to strange fruit by billie holiday, its a disturbing song, but it is the exact example of what having soul is.
