Maps of the Stars

David Cronenberg is responsible for films such as The Fly remake, 1988’s Dead Ringers, and 2005’s A History of Violence, yet his new movie may be the most disturbing one yet. The film is a tale of celebrity aspiration and Hollywood misery combining incest, mental illness, a few dead kids. Cronenberg movie is filled with desperation, violence, and intense humor. There are images in this movie that will be almost impossible to erase from your mind.

Cronenberg Maps to the Stars movie was written by Bruce Wagner who wrote the script almost 20 years ago but finding no luck in completing project, repurposed it for the novel Dead Stars in 2012.

In a recent interview with Rich Juzwick, Cronenberg states that the subject matter didn’t cause and complication getting the movie released.

It’s gotten a pretty good reception at the screenings we’ve had in the U.S. and even in Hollywood. I don’t think that’s been a factor. What is a factor is the tone of the movie, that it’s dark although it’s funny, and that it’s difficult in some ways. Not difficult to understand, but not normal, middle-of-the-road sort of fare. That’s really what’s been the problem, not really that it’s been about Hollywood and can be seen as a critique of Hollywood.”

David Cronenberg’s long awaited Maps to the Stars will finally be released in U.S. theaters on Feb 27th. The film had been previously release d in theaters France on May 21, 2014.
