Mandy Moore Pulls Out of ABC Pilot

Mandy Moore’s pulling out of Pulling.

The singer/actress has gracefully bowed out of a pilot for the proposed ABC single-camera comedy, based on the 2006 British series of the same name. The move comes after Pulling writers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky decided to take Moore’s character in a “different direction.”

As script and casting changes evolved, Moore felt she was no longer right to play her character. Moore said “it was clear” that she needed to leave. She told Deadline Hollywood:

“Many things change quickly as a pilot moves into production… it was clear this wasn’t right for me. Rather than jeopardize the show, I asked to step aside. They and ABC were very accommodating, and wish them all the best in the fall. It’s a terrific show that worked so well in the UK, I hope it gets the audience it deserves here.”

The show’s producers said:

“Mandy is a pro, and has been very patient and accommodating with us, As we moved closer to production, it was clear we needed to go in a different direction for the character and Mandy agreed to do what was best for the show. She’s an immensely gifted actress and we hope to have the pleasure of working with her again.”

Pulling is the story of three 30-something roommates who come together after one of them breaks off her wedding. Mandy, 28, would have appeared opposite June Diane Raphael and Jenny Slate as a desperate husband-hunter.
