Madonna “Sticky & Sweet Tour” “Highest-Grossing North American Tour of 2008″

Madonna’s 2008 tour has set a record.
The Material Girl’s Sticky & Sweet Tour, to promote the singer’s latest album Hard Candy, was the highest-grossing North American tour of the year, Pollstar reports.
Apparently, a lot of folks enjoying watching an over the hill broad skip across the stage in psychedelic booty shorts….I think I’ll pass.
The concerts racked up tickets sales totaling $105 million in North America and $280 million worldwide, according to final figures.
Other top grossing tours of the year included Celine Dion, who sold $94 million in tickets, and concerts by The Eagles, which earned $73.4 million.

If highest grossing means she grosses everyone out more than anyone else, I get it. She is a parody of a washed up rockstar. Looking at photos of people attending the concerts, it seems like there may be a AARP discount involved in the ticket purchases. The kids certainly don’t follow her and I never have understood her appeal beyond a certain level of nasty voyeurism.
Didn’t anyone under the age of 40 go on tour this year? It seems like the senior adults are all nostalgic with their choice of concerts to attend and willing to fork up obscene amounts of money for tickets. I guess the younger generation is getting it done in smaller venues and by podcasting.
