Madonna is pulling a page from the Book of Oprah and opening a school for girls in the African nation of Malawi. Malawi is the native country of Madonna.

“I’m buying land and getting permission to build a girl’s school. The women will play a big role in the future and rebirth of Malawi,” the Material Girl says in the May 2008 issue of Elle Magazine.

I think this is a very good idea to develop leaders for the future. Africa currently has a great need for leaders, especially women. I think the secret to success is to identify the girls with potential from a young age and then to develop them. It is however essential to use the correct assessment techniques seeing that these kids come from different cultures. For this reason it is important to use culture fair and unbiased instruments. I have been involved in the leadership assessment of the girls at the Oprah Winfrey Academy for Girls in South Africa and have many years experience in assessments. Should there be an opportunity to assist Madonna in the assessment of girls with potential, I would appreciate an opportunity to forward a proposal. All our assessments have been done in the African context. We are an organisation consisting of Industrial Psychologists.

Good luck with this exciting project that will have a huge impact on the future of Africa. It will be wonderful if more people can follow in the footsteps of Madonna and Oprah to uplift the children of Africa.
