Madonna Booed For Concert Delay O2 Arena; Blames Air Conditioning
Madonna was violently booed and jeered after she left approximately 14,000 fans at London’s O2 Arena waiting for more than an hour as she demanded the venue’s air conditioning system be stepped up before she would agree to set foot on stage.
The pop superstar took to the stage to kick off the European leg of her Sticky and Sweet World Tour in the British capital on Saturday night. Madge managed to get back into fans’ good graces with a well-executed song/dance tribute to the King of Pop Michael Jackson, but the delayed start meant many concert-goers were left stranded as London’s public transportion system shut down for the night.
On Tuesday, a spokeswoman for the O2 Arena apologized to fans who were stuck after the gig and explained the reason behind the show’s delayed start.
“Madonna unfortunately came on stage much later than we expected. Madonna requested the arena be a certain temperature – the air conditioning was turned on an hour before Madonna came on stage.”
