“Mad Men” Child Star Slams January Jones: “She’s Not Very Approachable…”
Remember all those scenes in Mad Men depicting ’60s housewife Betty Draper being dreadful to her children? Well, it seems Betty’s alter ego — knocked-up actress January Jones — doesn’t get on much better with kids in real life.
What delightful news for her unborn child.
Jared Gilmore, who played Betty’s son Bobby, will leave Mad Men when the role is recast next season; he’s leaving the hit AMC show for ABC’s Once Upon A Time. When TV Guide grilled him on what advice he’d offer his replacement, the 11-year-old actor answered:
“Be careful around January [Jones]. She’s not as approachable as the others. She’s really serious about what she does. Everyone else is so nice.”
Gotta love how kids cut right to the point.
January’s Mad Men co-star John Slattery —- aka ad man Roger Sterling -— is defending the actress, however, insisting that Jared is confusing Jones with her onscreen persona.
“It’s an intimidating character,” John tells E! News. “I mean, that’s the character. Betty Draper is an intimidating woman I suppose, if you were a seven-year-old boy [or] her son.”
“…She’s a sweetheart.”
