“Mad Men” Barbie Dolls

The cast of Mad Men is getting “The Barbie Treatment.”
Mattel has purchased the licensing rights to design a collection of Barbie & Ken dolls patterned after series protagonist Don Draper and three characters from the critically-acclaimed cable series. The featured dolls –- Draper, his wife, Betty, and colleagues Roger Sterling and Joan Holloway – will be priced at $74.95.
Mad Men Barbies are set to go on sale this summer — just in time for the fourth season of the AMC series.
“The dolls, we feel, do a great job of embodying the series…..” Mattel’s Senior Vice-President, Stephanie Cota, told The New York Times Wednesday.

Good to see Barbie trade unrealistic physical appearance for emotional and vocational subservience.
Or, as Draper might pitch:
“Mad Men Barbie. For a more subtle sexism.”

Sorry about posting an URL earlier–just wanted to alert MAD MEN fans that one-of-a-kind versions of these four characters PLUS Peggy and Pete are featured in a perfectly detailed miniature dollhouse diorama (kind of like Barbie’s dream office, only in the style of Don Draper) in the March/April issue of Haute Doll Magazine, hitting news stands this month. And these OOAK dolls come complete with martini cocktails and Lucky Strikes, but no electric vibrator belt ; )
