Grammy night was quite the evening for rap duo Macklemore and Ryan Lewis.
The pair scored four of music’s most coveted statuettes at Sunday’s ceremony in Los Angeles? So why are they extending an olive branch to Compton-bred emcee Kendrick Lamar?
Macklemore and Ryan Lewis went head-to-head with the “Poetic Justice” rapper in four categories and came out with the Grammy each time. It was such a sweep that Macklemore felt compelled to text Lamar and apologize.A screencap of the message was later uploaded to Macklemore’s Instagram page.
He wrote in part:
“You got robbed…I wanted you to win. You should have. It’s weird and sucks that I robbed you. I was gonna say that during the speech then the music started playing during my speech and I froze. Anyway, you know what it is. Congrats on this year and your music. Appreciate you as an artist and a friend. Much love”
Whaddya think? Sound genuine?
Macklemore, an outspoken proponent for civil rights issues, even called into New York’s Hot 97 early Monday to discuss the “Kendrick snub” and racism in Grammy selection.
