We are on the dawn of the emergence of a “celebrity” (using this term loosely) skin flick that could rival the career-building success of One Night in Paris and Kim K Superstar.
If you dabble in the tomfoolery that is VH1’s lineup of reality shows (Show Yourselves!), the expression Love and Hip-Hop Atlanta (LHHATL) will require little introduction. Once specializing in ratchet rap music, infidelity and hair-pulling, nail-clawing knockdowns between castmembers, the docu-series pioneered by veteran music exec Mona Scott-Young recently added “sex tape scandals” to its repertoire.
And at the center of said sex tape shocker is LHHATL star Mimi Faust, 41 (Read: Too Old for this Sh*t) and her very acrobatic boyfriend Nikko Smith. It all started when a “private” video the lovebirds recorded for their “personal use” (Uh-huh) fell into the Hot Little Hands of Vivid Entertainment boss Steve Hirsch.
Funny how that always seems to happen. (Insert eye-rolling here.)
Now, if you’ve been keeping up with your celebrity goss (If not, shame on you!) You already know that Hirsch is the man to blame for not only a bevy of celebrity stroke films — starring the likes of Mindy McCready, Paris Hilton, Jessica Sierra and Montana Fishburne — but in a roundabout sorta way, the rise of the Kardashians.
But that’s a story for another day.
If early sales figures and buzz around the blogosphere are any indication, Steve hasn’t lost his Midas Touch. Interest is so high for the aptly-titled Mimi and Nikko that Vivid has already slammed at least 1,200 online blogs and communities hosting the video with cease and desist letters, citing copyright infringement. TMZ has gone so far as to call the red-light feature the “most pirated porno of all-time.”
“…The anticipation leading to the tape’s release has been insane — pre-sale numbers were through the roof…totaling roughly $400,000. Since the release at midnight, we’re told Vivid’s website has been raking in new memberships — averaging 15 new joins every MINUTE.”
We won’t even discuss what Mimi and Nikko have done for the shower curtain rod industry.
According to TMZ, Vivid bosses haven’t seen numbers this high since the 2007 release of the Kim Kardashian-Ray J starrer, Kim K Superstar. At this rate, Mimi, her implants and her bathroom accessories could be well on their way to a reality show on E! and a mansion in Calabasas.
After all, one can dream.
