Los Angeles Mayor Requests Donations To Pay For Michael Jackson Memorial

The mayor of of Los Angeles is asking fans of late pop icon Michael Jackson for help covering the costs associated with Tuesday’s public memorial for the King of Pop.
The city’s Staples Center arena hosted thousands of fans at this morning’s tribute to Jackson. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa wants help footing the approximately $2.5-$4 million tab the cash-strapped city is facing after being forced to shut down traffic and flood Downtown Los Angeles with local police.
On Tuesday, Villaraigosa added a page to the City of L.A.’s website, with a PayPal link, asking fans to “help give Michael the world class memorial he deserves.”
“Help the City of Angels provide the extraordinary public safety resources required to give Michael the safe, orderly and respectful memorial he deserves. If you’re a Michael fan, considering giving a small donation to help us celebrate his extraordinary life and music,” the mayor’s statement reads.
The city is also accepting checks.
