Lindsay Lohan Jewelry Theft Investigation — Jewels Stolen After Lohan Photoshoot

Police in Britain have launched an investigation into several hundred thousand dollars worth of jewelry that went missing after a Lindsay Lohan photoshoot in London earlier this month.

Lindsay posed for an upcoming issue of Elle Magazine UK during her recent trip to Britain’s capital city. Informants tell, that Lohan spent the better part of the photoshoot asking if she could borrow the jewelry that she was draped in on loan. Magazine editors instructed her that she was not to keep the jewelry, but spies say the notoriously tempermental star left with them anyway.

An insider tells the website, “She kept going on about the jewels, asking if she could have them. We all thought she was joking.”

The editors and jewelers spent two weeks trying to get a response from the actress, but she reportedly left the U.K. last week without returning the pieces.

“Officers from Westminster police are investigating an allegation of theft of jewelry from studios in Brewery Road, Islington,” a spokesperson for Britain’s Scotland Yard confirmed in press release issued late Monday. “The theft was reported to a central London police station on [June 8, 2009] after earrings and a necklace, believed to be diamond and estimated to be worth in the region of 250,000 [pounds], were found to be missing [approximately] two days earlier. Inquiries are continuing. No arrests at this stage.”

Lindsay’s rep has denied that the star — who was once accused of stealing another woman’s fur coat from a New York City nightclub — has anything to do with the disappearing gems.

“No one has contacted us yet, but Lindsay is happy to cooperate. She wants them to find the missing items,” a rep for the former child star told Entertainment Tonight on Monday.
