Legend is the latest film to feature Tom Hardy, who seems to be on quite a roll lately without any signs of stopping anytime soon. It features him in yet another tough and action-packed role that is sure to please.
From the looks of it, Legend may be a gangster film that could rival recent releases and remind fans of the genre of some of the classics. Tom Hardy plays the two main characters in a film about identical twins who are both gangsters.
The film follows the exploits of Ronald and Reginald Kray, two English gangsters who terrorized London in the 50’s and 60’s. While the two brothers looked exactly alike, they were quite different in just about every other aspect, with Reginald considered the “gangster prince of London” and Ronald “the violent paranoid schizophrenic.”
In addition to Tom Hardy, Legend has a supporting cast that features Emily Browning, Taron Egerton, David Thewlis, and even classic gangster film actor Chazz Palminteri.
It certainly shows Hardy’s acting range a bit more with him portraying characters that are virtually opposite in their actions and one of them even gets too outrageous to the point where he is asked to do something about it, to which he replies “I can’t do that. He’s my brother.”
Despite their differences, it is a film about the loyalty that exists within a family as well as the gangster culture. Prior to the release of Legend, fans of the gangster genre will be treated to the new Johnny Depp film Black Mass, in which he portrays Whitey Bulger, a role that already looks worthy of awards.
Legend will open in theaters in the UK on September 11th and on October 2nd in the United States. The film was written and directed by Brian Helgeland, who has previously done A Knight’s Tale, The Order, and 42.
