Larry King’s headed back to CNN — although not in the capacity you might think.
The veteran broadcaster, who hung up his suspenders after 25 years with the network last December, will be interviewed by British journalist Piers Morgan, whose Piers Morgan Tonight replaced Larry King Live in CNN’s 9PM timeslot. The new show has seen a sharp decline in recent weeks, despite serving up chats with The Kardashians, shock jock Howard Stern, and The Queen of Talk Oprah Winfrey.
In an interview with The BBC last week, King confessed that Piers’ interviewing style may have been overhyped by CNN execs.
“One of the problems they did was to oversell it — they said he was going to be dangerous, he was going to be water-cooler talk, it was ‘wait till you see me, I’m different, Well, he’s good — but he’s not that dangerous…. He’s good, but not that dangerous. I think they might have been better off starting quietly and that’s not Piers’ fault, or maybe it is, I’m not inside anymore.”
Larry even had some advice for Piers – don’t interrupt the guests.
“He’s certainly not bad. He’s certainly an acceptable host. He asks good questions, maybe he interrupts a little too much at times.”
An airdate for the King-Morgan sitdown has not yet been announced.
