Larry Johnson, sit’cho ass down! Homophobia is so ’80s — too bad someone forgot to give Larry Johnson that memo. The Kansas City Chiefs running back is in trouble with a capital T with GLAAD over his use of the “homophobic f-bomb twice in the last 24 hours.” Johnson has been suspended by the Kansas City Chiefs while they investigate his distasteful Twitter outburst against head coach Todd Haley and gay slurs he hurled at the media.

In case you missed, Larry’s little tirade, Queerty has plenty of petulant quotes for your viewing. On Monday, Jarrett Barrios, the president of the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, calling for the NFL to take action against Johnson.

“All too often this is the word that is used to ridicule and harass young gay and transgender athletes on local sports fields across America,” Barrio said. “Professional athletes who use this word need to be held accountable for feeding a climate of intolerance toward our community. NFL officials need to take action and condemn this and future uses of this anti-gay epithet.”

Apparently, someone was listening.

“The Kansas City Chiefs and the National Football League are continuing to investigate the alleged comments made by Larry Johnson,” read a Kansas City Chiefs statement dismissing the NFL star indefinitely.

Way to go, NFL. People like this are such a blight on the rest us of heteros.

Earlier this afternoon, Johnson released a half-assed apology for his actions through his representatives.

“First of all, I want to apologize to the fans of the Kansas City Chiefs and the rest of the NFL, commissioner Goodell, the Chiefs organization, coach Todd Haley, his staff, and my team-mates for the words I used yesterday,” the statement read.

“I regret my actions. The words were used by me in frustration, and they were not appropriate.I did not intend to offend anyone, but that is no excuse for what I said…”
