Lady Gaga’s Sound of Music Performance
Lady Gaga wearing a blond wig performed a Sound of Music medley during the film’s 50th anniversary tribute at the Oscars on Sunday. The recently engaged pop icon looked like a bride in her white halter Azzedine Alaïa gown.
The five-time Grammy award winner showed off her talents with the best performance of her career with a surprisingly traditional tribute performance of The Sound of Music theme, My Favorite Things, Edelweiss, and Climb Every Mountain.
Afterwards, Gaga who was born Stefani Germanotta, received a standing ovation from the star studded audience. She was then greeted onstage by Julie Andrews who played the original Maria von Trapp. Andrew’s gave Gaga a big hug of approval. “Thank you for that beautiful performance. It really warmed my heart, it did,” the 79-year-old Oscar winner said to Gaga onstage.
Prior to the performance, Scarlett Johansson introduced a montage of clips from Robert Wise’s iconic 1965 Sound of Music which had previously won five Oscars. On the red carpet, Lady Gaga wore another bridal-style frock from the Tunisian-born couturier, which she boasted on twitter was “His first ever for the Oscars.”
“It took 1600 hrs of embroidery and 25 people in Paris, he’s never before made a dress for the Oscars. What an honor!” Putting on a sideshow, Gaga covered up her diamond engagement ring from fiancé Taylor Kinney with red leather gloves.
Unfortunately her 33-year-old fiancé wasn’t able to attend the Oscars because he had to “work in the morning” on NBC’s Chicago Fire.
