Did you actually listen to the song? In the first few lines she sings:
"Amidst all these flashing lights I pray that the fame won't take my life."
And the point of the song is that by the end, the fame does take her life, through the dysfunctional relationship with the paparazzi.
Watch the video. The message is the same – she just had a stage show with the blood to shock the VMA crowd.

I knew very little of Lady Ga Ga prior to the performance and became and instant fan. In this day and age it is difficult to stand alone or to be new and fresh. She has pulled it off as this performance was over the top. She is pushing the envelope in a powerful way. She is simply the next big thing………….
