Lady Gaga Unable to Perform in Indonesia After Islamic Opposition
The staunchly conservative Islamic establishment is being credited with dismantling plans for a Lady Gaga concert in Indonesia that had been scheduled for next month.
Indonesia, a secular country of 240 million people, has a higher population of Muslims than any other nation in the world. On Tuesday, Mother Monster was forced to pump the brakes on a sold-out one night engagement after police argued that her often racy stage attire and choreography would corrupt the country’s youth. The move came shortly after a spokesperson with the Jakarta Police announced that the permit for Gaga’s June 3 concert had been denied.
Lady Gaga kicked off the Asian leg of her Born This Way Ball Tour last month. But the tour has not been without controversy.
Some religious zealots threatened to attack Gaga to prevent her from stepping off the plane. And her concerts in South Korea were restricted to fans aged 18 or older after conservatives there complained about her risque performances.
